This workshop is for cis/trans women to unleash their inner archetypes of the feminine so they may become more powerful in their art and their activism.
Archetypes are powerful cross-cultural figures that we find in our ancestral myths and legends. While a stereotype constricts, an archetype makes us feel expansive. In this day-long workshop, we will explore the Maiden, Mother, Crone and finish with the Hero’s Journey so we can go back out into the world feeling grounded and empowered.
Participants will be led through narrative journeys where they will respond imaginatively, physically, vocally. We will move, imagine, sound, grieve, and celebrate. We will hold space for each other and discover what is powerful in our collective journeys. Connection to these archetypes allows us to explore aspects of ourselves and how we can use these aspects in our creative expression and activist work.
No previous experience in performance, singing, or this archetype work is necessary. Actors, singers, dancers, painters, sculptors, writers, filmmakers, craftmakers, musicians, and activists are welcome. Women of color, adoptees, lgbtq women, and multilingual speakers are especially encouraged to attend.

Amy Mihyang GInther is a Master Teacher of this work, which was founded by Frankie Armstrong and Janet B. Rodgers. She has taught it in the US, UK, and South Korea to a broad range of participants. Amy is a Korean-American transracial adoptee and is a professor at UC Santa Cruz in the Theater Arts Department. She has taught workshops with Mu Theatre, Seoul Shakespeare Company, and Savage Umbrella. Amy provided voice coaching for the Welcoming Ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, appeared on the cover of the New York Times Magazine in 2014, and performed as part of Denise Rinehart’s TEDx in Cheongju.
